Teachers and Teaching Assistant Vacancies

At Islamic Centre Edgware, we understand that to give great education to our children we need to have great teachers. We are always searching for those special teachers who can make a difference.

If you would like to apply for a position at our Madrasah, please have a look through our requirements below and get in touch if you think you are suited to it. Also note that we are also looking for Teaching Assistants who may not have any experience, but would like to volunteer with us.

Madrasah Times & Classes

The madrasah at Islamic Centre Edgware operates on weekdays from Monday to Thursday from 5.00pm – 7.00pm for beginner students from the age of 7 and above. Full-time teachers are expected to teach all four days and attend all scheduled inset days.

The madrasah also operates on weekends, with classes on Saturday and Sunday from 11:00am – 1:00pm for more advanced or older students up to the maximum age of 18. Part-time teachers are expected to teach both days and attend ant necessary management meeting.

Students are usually divided into classes according to their ability and are separated into girls classes and boys classes. The teachers are expected to act as role models and thus generally male teachers teach the boys and female teachers teach the girls. In some cases, the lower classes may be taught by any gender.

We are looking for male and female teachers with the following qualities:

  • Essential: Who have a good command of the English language and ability to communicate with students
  • Essential: Who read Qur’ān fluently with good Tajweed
  • Essential: Who implement the Islamic rulings upon themselves and can therefore present a good role model to their students
  • Essential: Who are able to follow administrative responsibilities
  • Essential: Who have excellent reliability and punctuality
  • Preferred as training can be given: Who are competent in teaching the madrasah Islāmic Studies Syllabus, including the Biography of Prophet Muhammad () & the noble companions; Islamic history; Islamic fiqh of worship including practical wudū’ and salāh; Islamic belief & manners and general rules of lifestyle
  • Preferred as training can be given: Who understand how to teach and preferably have experience of teaching with creative and modern resources and methods
  • Knowledge of Arabic as a language; memorisation of the entire Qur’ān or portions of it; and the knowledge of frequent du’ās is a great advantage
  • Preference will also be given to those who are local to the area, although others will be considered

Applicants must be willing to participate in all inset days, annual awards ceremony, parent evenings, assemblies, practical demonstrations of salāh, etc. to their respective classes. Administration work may also be necessary out of contracted hours.

We offer a competitive salary including full pay during holidays. Holidays include: Bank Holidays, Winter Break (Dec/Jan), Spring Break (March/April), Summer Holidays (August), Ramadān, Eidayn, Āshoora’and Yawmu-Arafah. Salary is dependent upon experience and ability with bonuses for good performance.

All applicants successful in the interview must pass a DBS (CRB) check.

Syllabus

There are three sections to the Islamic syllabus taught, primarily based upon the teaching curriculum developed by Safar Academy. The three sections are firstly Qur’ān reading composed of basic Qaidah, Tajweed rules and recitation of the Qur’ān; secondly memorisation of sūrahs and du’ās; and thirdly Islamic Studies.

Lesson Management

The teacher will also be required to prepare and deliver a daily lesson to the entire class as well as update daily individual learning plans for every child. Progress of each child must be recorded with a necessary school report prepared at the end of each academic year.
