Our History

The Islamic Centre Edgware (ICE) was established in 1974 to serve the needs of the Muslim community in the Edgware and surrounding areas. Thus, we are a registered charity [Charity Registration Number: 270 823] with the aim of meeting the spiritual and welfare needs of the Muslim community in and around the Edgware area.

ICE purchased its first property in Beverley Drive, Queensbury, in 1988. From this property we provided five daily prayers and Quranic lessons for the children. However, as it was a residential house, Brent Council were not minded to change its use and the property could no longer be used from the year 2000.

Nevertheless, for over twenty years, ICE was providing Friday and Eid Prayers at the Watling Community Centre on Orange Hill Road, Edgware and continues to do so.

The restriction of the use of the property at Beverly Drive made the need for a new centre more urgent and for many years the Trustees and volunteers gathered money from the community and searched for a suitable property or site for use as a Mosque and Community Centre.

Alhamdulillah, in 2007, we acquired a former motorcycle workshop behind 9 to 11 Deansbrook Road in Edgware. Soon after, we started the planning application process to create a purpose-built facility for the community. This involved the demolition of the existing buildings and the construction of a new two storey Islamic Centre Edgware with facilities for both men and women.

After many years of consultation with the London Borough of Barnet, Alhamdulillah in 2012 we received the planning permission with the support of the local Councillors who visited the site.

We started construction soon after and Alhamdullilah we officially opened the new Centre on 25 March 2016.

We thank the officials with whom we worked, for their patience, advice and support during the building of this Centre.

We also thank those who have been contributing to this project, financially and with their time over the last forty years to bring it to where it is and pray that Allah rewards them, and that their efforts count as ongoing charity for their community. This is especially pertinent of the founding members of Islamic Centre Edgware for their foresight and perseverance without which this Centre would not be where it is. May every prayer that is prayed here reflect on their balance of good deeds.
