Home Education has been steadily on the rise in the last few years and especially since Covid. In Autumn 2024 it was estimated that there had been an increase of around 20% compared to the year before.
There are a number of reasons why people may choose to home educate. Some choose it because of religious reasons; finding that state schools don’t align with their personal beliefs or offer an environment that they feel is appropriate for their family. Some don’t feel that the systems in UK schools offer enough of a differentiated education and would prefer instead to tailor their child’s learning in a more unique manner, opting to learn about subjects which they have interest in and would benefit better from. Some, simply, like the flexibility that home education offers and appreciate the chance to spend their time and plan their days/week/year to a schedule that suits their family situation and lifestyle better.
At ICE we have been working with the home educating community in and around Barnet to provide opportunities to take part in a variety of different activities and lessons from sports and martial arts to hands-on science and book study groups for GCSE. We even offer specific Islamic Studies classes for home-ed children where they cover a variety of topics including, Belief, Worship, Seerah, Stories of the Prophets, Islamic Manners and more.
ICE works with various local partners to deliver this service not just to the Muslim community but through outreach to the wider community too.
